Many potential customers of Office 365 I speak to hear the term “single sign-on” (SSO) in relation to Office 365 and immediately ask for it. From the outset it seems simple enough as to why customers would want SSO, however any identity management system usually requires a decent amount of infrastructure in order to deliver a seamless user experience.
Often overlooked is the Office 365 Sign In Assistant (SIA) as being a simple way for SMB’s to connect to Office 365 without the need for SSO.
Unfortunately IT professionals who don’t know much about Office 365 are not aware of the requirements to implement SSO or how useful SIA can actually be.
Case in point was when I was asked if SSO could be implemented using Microsoft Small Business Server.
Read on in my latest piece on BoxFreeIT to understand why this wouldn’t work, and ultimately why single sign-on is not a practical option for SMBs.
