Office 365 (Wave 15) FAQ

As we get closer to the next release of Office 365 I wanted to create a FAQ to list some of the features that may not have previously been available in the current version of Office 365.

If you have a question – please send it to me so that I can answer it.

General

What is the reference to Wave and 15?

This is Microsoft’s internal versioning of the products and is a way to bring them all into line in terms of releases.

For example BPOS was Wave 12 as it included the 2007 range of products.

Wave 13 was skipped for superstitious reasons.

The current incarnation of Office 365 is built on the 2010 products which formed Wave 14.

During the initial testing phase the Office products were referred to as “Office 15″, “SharePoint 15″, “Lync 15″ and so on – until it was determined what year they would be released and therefore whether they should be called “2012″ or “2013″.

Will Telstra still be involved in the next version of Office 365 (Australia specific)?

Yes, Telstra’s exclusivity agreement still has a few years to go with Microsoft.
